FAQs

Welcome to the FAQ page! Here, I’ve gathered some common questions about therapy, how I work, and what you can expect. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out directly.

What can I expect during my first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and discuss what brings you to therapy. We’ll talk about your current concerns, any relevant history, and your goals for therapy. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions about how I work and see if we’re a good fit.

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and the issues you want to address. Some people come to therapy for a few months to work through specific concerns, while others find long-term therapy helpful in exploring deeper patterns and ongoing personal growth. Together, we’ll figure out what works best for you.

How often will we meet?

Typically, I meet with clients once a week, but this can vary depending on your needs. We’ll discuss what feels most helpful for you and adjust as needed.

What is psychoanalytic therapy?

Psychoanalytic therapy is a form of talk therapy that focuses on understanding the deeper, often unconscious, forces that shape your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It’s about exploring the root causes of your struggles, rather than just addressing symptoms. Through this process, you gain greater self-awareness and emotional insight, leading to lasting change.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a critical part of the therapy process, and I take it very seriously. What you share in therapy stays between us, with a few exceptions related to safety, which we’ll discuss in our first session.

Do you accept insurance?

For Oregon clients, I am currently in-network with Aetna and Pacific Source insurance. In Maryland, I am in-network with Johns Hopkins Employer Health Plan (EHP). If you have another insurance provider, I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. It’s a good idea to check with your insurance company beforehand to understand what they cover.

How do I get started?

The first step is to contact me to schedule an initial consultation. You can do this by reaching out via the contact form or by phone. In this consultation, we’ll talk about what brings you to therapy and see if we’re a good fit for working together.

What if I’ve never been in therapy before?

That’s completely okay! Many of my clients are new to therapy. I understand that starting therapy can feel intimidating, but I’m here to guide you through the process at your own pace. We’ll work together to make it a supportive and comfortable experience for you.

What types of issues do you work with?

I specialize in working with eating disorders, body image concerns, LGBTQ+ issues, women’s issues, anxiety, depression, and trauma. However, I also work with a wide range of other emotional and relational challenges. If you’re unsure whether therapy can help with your specific concerns, feel free to reach out.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in effective therapy, so it’s essential to find someone you feel comfortable with. During our initial consultation, we’ll have a chance to talk about what you’re looking for, and you can ask any questions you may have about how I work. You can also take some time to reflect after our meeting to decide if you feel like we’re a good fit.

Still have questions? Feel free to contact me! I’m happy to answer any other questions you may have or provide more information about starting therapy.
